JAKARTA - Tesla's chief executive, Elon Musk, donated $1.95 billion from the world's largest automaker to a charity last year. This is known according to a filing to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Tuesday, February 14.
Musk donated around 11.6 million shares between August and December last year. However, the SEC did not disclose which organizations were the recipients of the grant funds.
The second richest man in the world now owns about 13% of Tesla's shares.
But Tesla did not immediately respond to an email from Reuters, asking for details about which charities or charities are getting the donation.
Previously, Musk also donated around 5.74 billion US dollars (Rp83.1 trillion) from wealth for charity in 2021.
Analysts say Musk may benefit from giving Tesla shares if he donates them to charities, as shares donated to charities don't have to pay capital gains taxes, as would if the shares were sold.
Musk signed the Giving Pledge in 2012, a commitment by some billionaires to give at least half their fortune for life philanthropy or after they die.
