JAKARTA The World Chess Federation (FIDE) collaborates with Avalanche (AVAX). The partnership is aimed at introducing chess to the Web3 world. Avalanche announced the cooperation on December 23. That way, chess games can potentially be played in the metaverse.

Just for information, the FEudration Internationale des morchecs (FIDE) or the World Chess Federation is an organization that oversees various chess federations in various countries. FIDE also often oversees world chess championships.

The FIDE explained that the ancient chessboard game from India has evolved for centuries and is now entering the digital realm. Every day there are 100 million people in the world playing online chess who compete in 25 million digital matches per day.

FIDE believes that introducing chess into Web 3 will mark the next stage of evolution in the game. As part of the partnership, Avalanche (AVAX) and Core, the self- wallet developed by Ava Labs, will appear as sponsors in the FIDE tournament. This includes the World Rapid and Blitz 2022 championships starting on December 25 in Kazakhstan.

Launching CryptoSlate, Avalanche and Core will invest in developing FIDE chess-related products on the network, according to a press release. Ava Labs, the development company behind Avalanche, will work closely with FIDE to use blockchain to solve challenges in chess and reduce operational inefficiency for players and federations. This partnership also aims to improve game integrity, include a new generation of players, and increase innovation.

FIDE will use Avalanche's subnet technology to create on-chain products such as on-chain player rankings and tournament data management, historical game explorers, and release a collection of digital prizes and trophies at Avalanche. The team will also work to add an on-chain personalized gaming experience, Avalanche said.

"Catur is a unique sport, and this collaboration will allow us to unite our community and strengthen the ties between players, clubs, federations and FIDEs," said Emil Sutovsky, CEO of FIDE.

"The possibility created by bringing chess on-chain is as unlimited as the chess game itself... In Avalanche, players around the world will experience a chess experience that has never existed before," CEO Ava Labs Emin G\"un Sirer.

However, that this is not the first time FIDE has taken a step into Web 3.0. In 2021, FIDE claims to be the first international sports federation to launch its own non-fungible token market (NFT), in partnership with TON Labs.
