Owned 900,000 Subscribers, Pornhub Blocked YouTube

JAKARTA - YouTube has blocked Pornhub's adult site channel for violating community guidelines, in which the account allegedly links external links leading to pornographic content.

YouTube spokesman Jack Malon said the company prohibits users from linking to unauthorized content on platforms such as pornography.

"After review, we stopped the Pornhub Official channel due to some violations of our Community Guidelines," said Malon.

"We enforce our policies equally for everyone, and channels that repeatedly violate or are dedicated to infringing content will be stopped," he added.

The Pornhub YouTube channel, which had nearly 900.000 subscribers before it was removed, is accused of inciting users on Google's video streaming platform to leave the site and view adult content.

In response, Pornhub said they only posted safe content promoting its website and its artists.

They also impose an 18 year and over age limit on videos posted to YouTube, and deny the company does not link external links to adult content.

"Pornhub maintains absolute trust and security measures on the internet and is careful not to violate any YouTube Community Guidelines," said a Pornhub spokesman, who asked to remain anonymous for reasons of security related to doxing.

"Unfortunately, this is just the latest example of discrimination against people in the adult industry, a trend seen on social media and all other aspects of life, especially as groups dishonestly mix consensual adult content with exploitation," he added.

Launching The Verge, Monday, December 19, Pornhub's blockage from YouTube emerged months after Instagram permanently also banned the adult site.

Instagram argued that Pornhub violated the rules regarding nudity, adult content, and sexual invitations. Like YouTube, Instagram also claims Pornhub encourages Instagram users to leave the site to view adult content.

Pornhub responded to the ban with an open letter criticizing Instagram for being in the adult content industry for years, and then being undermined by Meta's opaque, discriminatory and hypocritical policies.

While other users continue to post nudity content and sexuality openly or are prohibited on Instagram.

For information, Pornhub and its parent company based in Luxembourg MindGeek continue to be hot conversations, where some people accuse the site of failing to moderate content and allow videos containing child abuse material and subjects that do not approve it to surface.

This affects Pornhub's relationship with other companies. In 2020, Visa and Mastercard stopped transactions on Pornhub due to unlawful content such as child pornography.
