Honda Use VR And AR Technology To Create A New EV Design

JAKARTA - During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Honda has embraced Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies to design the latest models in its electric vehicles.

The structuring team at Honda Design Studio in Los Angeles has successfully utilized advanced VR technology to develop its electric vehicle products in the future, from the Honda Pilot TrailSport 2023 to the Honda Prologue 2024 full electric.

According to Honda, VR technology will quickly become an important tool for Honda designers in the development of future mobility products.

By utilizing VR, the LA-based design team can quickly receive direct feedback and apply refinements to the modeling of colors, materials, and final completions related to EV models.

Combining virtual and augmented reality in the design process allows our Honda engineers and designers to combine digital content and physical assets in a cohesive way to interact with what they experience and touch in an immersive environment, said Mathieu Geslin, VR technology lead, Honda Design studio in a statement on its website.

According to him, the Honda Prologue 2024 is a key example of car development using VR technology completely, and will be forwarded to the development of other Honda products.

"Virtual reality protocoling removes restrictions on interior design and allows us to respond to faster feedback and collaborates more cohesively with HMI and color design teams, materials and finishing," said Lisa Lee, interior design project lead.

Honda design studios in Los Angeles started using VR technology in 2017. The Honda Pilot TrailSport 2023, all of which has just become the first production model in which LA-based teams use VR for product evaluation.

Mathieu added, this is Honda's ongoing effort to further explore the technical capabilities of VR and AR at its development center and will increase the attractiveness and quality of Honda products.
