JAKARTA - Instagram has long had a web desktop version but it doesn't look better than its mobile app version. Now, Instagram is making changes to its web desktop version by introducing a new design for large screen devices.

Instagram chief Adam Mosseri said the new design was made for users who perform a lot of tasks in the app, and are easier to use.

"We know a lot of people use the web to do a lot of work and we want to make sure Instagram provides the most amazing experience online," Mosseri said in his short video posted on his official Twitter page.

"So it's cleaner, faster, and easier to use and now designed to take advantage of large screen monitors."

This new design can be seen in menus and icons such as Home, Search, Explore, Messages and Notifications that move to side panels.

Stories are displayed at the top, then Profiles, Suggestions, and others are on the right. When the user selects any menu option, the menu bar on the left will still appear, making navigation faster and easier.

Launching TechCrunch, Thursday, November 10, while older web designs when opening Profiles, options like Posts, Guides, Reels and Tagged are hosted on the grid.

So if users want to switch to another tab, they have to scroll up. However, the new design solves this problem by moving the option to the side, making it easier to use Instagram on large monitors while switching between different tabs.

According to reports, the redesign will be rolled out in stages to all global users with large screen devices.

But that doesn't include the Instagram app on the iPad. Earlier this year, Mosseri stated the iPad app wasn't big enough to make it a development priority.

Previously reported, Instagram also relaxed the scheduling of posts that allow professional accounts to schedule their posts.
