JAKARTA - Microsoft plans to build an online app store similar to Apple and Google. But the difference is that this store will only offer games on mobile devices.

The plan came to light during an investigation conducted by the UK's Competition and Market Authority (CMA) over the acquisition of the Activision Blizzard game, in a filing, Microsoft said it would expand their gaming business on mobile phones, including building its app store.

This transaction will increase Microsoft's ability to create next-generation gaming stores operating on various devices, including mobile as a result of adding Activision Blizzard content. Building on the existing Activision Blizzard gaming community, Xbox will seek to scale the Xbox Store to mobile, pulling gamers to the new Mobile Xbox Platform," Microsoft explained in its filing.

Diversion consumers from the Google Play Store and App Store on mobile devices will require major changes in consumer behavior. Microsoft hopes that by offering famous and popular content, gamers will be more interested in trying something new."

Launching The Verge, Thursday, October 20, Call of Duty: Mobile and Candy Crush Saga are two very popular mobile games published by Activision and King.

With that, Microsoft can take advantage of these titles to help build game stores to compete with Google Play and the App Store. Given Apple's policy of blocking third-party app stores on iOS, it's hard to imagine Microsoft competing on the iPhone in the near future.

Because, reported TechCrunch, Microsoft will not be easy to compete with tech giants like Google and Apple.

A game study by data.ai and IDC found that, in the first quarter of 2022, consumers spent more than US$1.6 billion equivalent to Rp24.9 trillion per week for mobile games on the App Store and Play stores.
