Ahead Of The 2024 General Election, Minister Of Communication And Information Prepares Efforts To Maintain Digital Space

JAKARTA - Ahead of the 2024 Simultaneous General Elections, Ministries and institutions continue to improve coordination in an effort to protect the digital space from negative content.

"Ahead of the 2024 Simultaneous General Elections, Kominfo together with KPU, Bawaslu, DKPP, Ministry of Home Affairs, Police, TNI, BSSN, BIN, and even the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform, are preparing steps to prevent and properly handle digital space," said Minister of Communications and Informatics Johnny G. Plate in shared release, quoted Thursday, October 20.

Johnny also stated that ministries and institutions are trying to ensure that the election takes place properly in order to produce legitimate or legitimate leaders.

According to him, maintaining the digital space ahead of the 2024 General Election can be done by coordinating and collaborating with stakeholders to formulate preventive measures, including through digital literacy and handling negative content.

"We have learned from several previous general elections, be it Pilkada, Pileg, or Presidential elections, which have the potential to cause friction between the people, so we need to protect the digital space together," he said.

Johnny thinks that the discussion regarding this preventive measure is related to data, especially this election which is based on the Population Identification Number (NIK).

Furthermore, Johnny also stated that representatives of ministries and institutions had agreed that the electronic system of the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registry and the General Elections Commission in particular could be cybersecurity protected.

"We also ask to test its reliability, so that it can be more resilient when facing the general election," said the Minister of Communication and Information.
