JAKARTA - Apple has finally equipped a new iPad Pro with an M2gar chipset in both 11-inch and 12.9-inch versions, previously embedded only in the Mac. The M2 chip, known for its more capable performance than the M1.

Built using the second generation 5-naometer (nm) technology, the chip consists of 20 billion transistors which makes it 25 percent more than the M1.

The presence of additional transistors can improve features across chips, including memory controllers that provide 100GB memory bandwidth per second. And with an integrated memory of up to 24GB, M2 is claimed to be able to handle a larger and complex workload.

M2 has an 18 percent faster CPU than its predecessor. Compared to the latest 10-core PC laptop chip, CPUs in the M2 perform almost twice the same power level. M2 delivers PC chip vertex performance with only a quarter power.

Likewise, the 10-core GPU will also provide graphic performance up to 35 percent faster. Compared to the integrated graphics of the latest PC laptop chip, the GPU in the M2 performs 2.3 times faster, and matches its peak performance by using a fifth of the power.

Performance per watt that is higher than M2 makes battery life longer, even when operating graphics intensive games or editing massive RAW images, the M2 chip is still running smoothly.

Launching Engadget, Wednesday, October 19, on the iPad Pro M2, Apple claims users will get up to 10 hours of web browsing and video usage via WiFi in both versions of the tablet. Over the full nine hours of use, users can browse the web via mobile connection.

Furthermore, Apple says there are new media machines and image signal processors. This feature can support ProRes video taking on the iPad for the first time.

The iPad Pro will be able to transcode ProRes records three times faster than in the past as well. Apple says users will be able to capture, edit, and publish videos such as cinemas from one device on the ground.

This is because the iPad Pro M2 is supported by five studio quality microphones, so users can record sharp audio. The quad-peaker setting also has Dolby Atmos support.

Equipped with WiFi 6E, it makes it the first iPad Pro to have this technology. With this feature, users can reach download speeds of up to 2.4 Gb/s, which is twice as fast as the previous generation's iPad Pro.

Models with cellular connectivity will work with more 5G networks worldwide. However, support for mmWave frequency bands will only be available in the United States (US) and Puerto Rico.

Interestingly, this iPad Pro M2 brings a second-generation Apple Pencil. That way, users can see any signature preview they want to make before actually implementing it. Then, when the user puts the Apple Pencil near the Scribble app, the text field will be automatically expanded. Apple says handwriting can also be converted into text faster.
