JAKARTA - Twitter is creating a feature that allows users to control who can mention its (mention) account. This feature, which is still in the testing phase, was discovered by researcher and app engineer Jane Manchun Wong. This feature is said to allow users to completely block the (mention) designation.

Twitter privacy designer Dominic Camozzi confirmed that the feature is being worked on, in a tweet that is now being deleted. He also asked for feedback from the community about this new feature.

Making Twitter users limit who can implement their @ will be a pretty basic change in how the platform works. This change makes users may not be able to reach strangers across platforms to greet or show them something.

This feature can also prevent a campaign of intimidation or harassment and give marginalized users a new tool and feature to protect themselves.

Screenshot posted by Wong shows control that allows users to create it so anyone can mention or mention you. So far, Twitter's default workings are like that. But limiting the designation only to the person you follow, or disabling it completely is a new breakthrough that also protects privacy.

Reported by The Verge, this isn't the first time Twitter has let users narrow the list of people they can interact with on the platform.

In 2020, Twitter also rolled out a feature that allows users to limit who can reply to tweets, only to people who are followed or people mentioned in tweets. The latest Twitter Circle feature allows users to make it just a specific group of people being able to view certain tweets.
