List Of Electric Vehicle Manufacturers In Indonesia, A Number Of Companies For Massive Investment

YOGYAKARTA - The use of electric vehicles or electric vehicles is being campaigned for by the Indonesian government. Many electric battery manufacturers want to work on the electric vehicle battery industry in Indonesia. So far, one manufacturer has officially built and developed electric vehicle batteries in the country, namely LG Energy Solution and Hyundai Motor Group.

Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) and LG Energy Solution (LGES) have signed a cooperation in the construction of an electric car battery factory in Indonesia. In June 2022, they laid the first stone of PT HKML Battery Indonesia in the Batang Integrated Industrial Estate (KIT Batang), Central Java.

The cooperation agreement with the two large South Korean companies became the first electric vehicle battery investment in Indonesia. The amount of investment in LG and Hyundai electric vehicle factories is estimated at 1.1 billion dollars or a disbursement of Rp. 16.3 trillion rupiah.

Hyundai and LG received an injection of funds from five international financial companies. The loan funds have a 10-year period of time and take is carried out in stages during the project. Meanwhile, its electric vehicle battery factory will start operating in the first half of 2024.

This collective automotive group business factory from South Korea will produce battery cells worth 10 gigawatt hours per year. This amount is sufficient for the resources for electric vehicles as much as 150,000. Later, an additional capacity will be increased to 30 gigawatt hours.

The electric car company owned by tycoon Elon Musk is said to be building an electric vehicle battery factory in Indonesia. Yuliot Tanjung, Deputy for Climate Development for Investment BKPM, is still trying to attract Tesla.

However, Yuliot has not been able to explain in more detail the progress of cooperation and the exact time for Tesla to build a factory in Indonesia.

Chinese technology company Contemporary Amperex Technologi is also rumored to be developing an electric vehicle battery factory in the country. The company will carry out the construction of an electric battery factory in collaboration with PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTM).

The results of SOE cooperation engaged in mining with CATL include nickel mining and processing, EV battery materials, EV battery manufacturing, and battery recycling. The investment value in the cooperation is estimated at USD 6 billion.

Chengxin Lithium, a lithium company from China, reported that it will invest in the development of electric vehicle factories in Indonesia. The company will produce lithium chemicals in electric vehicle batteries. The target for the construction of the factory is located in the industrial area of the Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP).

The factory, which is being worked on by Chengxin Lithium, is expected to produce 50 thousand tons of lithium hydroxide per year and 10,000 tons of lithium carbonate per year.

Those are the producers of electric batteries in Indonesia and several companies that are rumored to be developing electrification in the country. The Indonesian government itself continues to aggressively encourage the creation of electrification climates.
