General Motors Will Supply 175 Thousand EVs To Hertz Until 2027

JAKARTA - Hertz, the car rental giant announced on Tuesday, September 20, an agreement in which Hertz ordered up to 175.000 electric vehicles from General Motors companies over the next five years.

The brand includes Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac and BrightDrop EV. This plan is carried out as an effort to expand the largest EV between customers by covering various categories of vehicles and prices, ranging from SUVs, pickups, luxury vehicles, and more.

In the agreement, GM will supply Hertz with various electric vehicles until 2027.

During this period, Hertz estimates that its customers can travel more than 8 billion miles in EVs, and save about 3.5 million metric tons of emissions equivalent to carbon dioxide compared to gasoline-powered vehicles.

"It is interesting that two iconic American companies that have formed the evolution of transportation for more than a century have come together to redefine the future of mobility in the 21st century," said Stephen Scherr, CEO of Hertz, in a release.

On the other hand, GM Chair and CEO Mary Barra revealed that GM and Hertz's collaboration is a big step towards reducing EV emissions and adoption which will create thousands of new customers for her company.

"With the choice of vehicles, technology, and driving range that we provide, I believe that any rental experience will further increase the consideration of purchasing for our products and encourage the growth of our company," he said.

Hertz Invested to create North America's largest EV rental fleet, with tens of thousands of EVs available for rental at various prices. There are now 500 Hertz locations in 38 states. The company's current target is a quarter of its fleet to be electric by the end of 2024.

GM delivery to Hertz is projected to accelerate production of its EVs between 2023 and 2025, driven by the opening of Lithium Cells battery cell factories in Ohio, Tennessee and Michigan.
