Beat Sony, Nintendo Switch Most Demand In The US

JAKARTA - Console manufacturers are competing to create their latest products in order to become king in the market. Not long ago, Sony also released the PlayStation 5 (PS5) as a new allure for its fans.

Likewise with Microsoft who presented the Xbox Series X / S. However, it seems that the citizens of the United States (US) are not that interested in the two consoles.

According to The Verge's report, Sunday, November 22, they are known to prefer the Nintendo Switch console. Because, for 23 consecutive months, this game console has become the best-selling seller in Uncle Sam's country.

In fact, based on NPD Group data, in October 735 thousand Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite had sold in the US. This figure is 136 percent higher than the previous year.

So far, Nintendo Switch enthusiasts and buyers have surpassed 22.5 million units. Meanwhile, globally, more than 68 million units have been sold.

"We are very excited to see this momentum. We have seen unprecedented demand for the Nintendo Switch so far this year," said Nintendo of America SVP of sales and marketing, Nick Chavez.

Chavez said that the increase in Switch console sales throughout October was due to two main factors. One of them is a better supply even during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Even so, Nintendo did not give up and continued to make efforts to maximize the supply of Switch as in US stores. Apart from pandemic conditions, this optimization also comes from the success factor of Animal Crossing: New Horizon.

"It is back on the market around October 4, and a lot of people are excited to get it as soon as possible. And we will continue to have sufficient supplies throughout this holiday and into 2021," Chavez said.

Chavez also admitted, apart from the pandemic and the success of the Animal Crossing game, the increase in female gamers and parents was also a factor in Nintendo's success in today's market.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many people to stay at home and have more time to play games at home," said Chavez.
