JAKARTA - TikTok is launching a new feature that helps users stop scrolling on its app for a long period of time.

The new feature, dubbed Screen Time Breaks, lets users control how much time they spend on TikTok. Of course this feature is very useful for anyone who wants to take a break from social media.

"In the coming weeks, we're introducing a tool to allow people to control how much time they spend on TikTok in one sitting by enabling regular screen time breaks," TikTok said in its official blog, Friday, June 10.

"This command will remind people to take a break after a certain amount of uninterrupted screen time, which they can set as they wish."

Screen Time Breaks will notify users of how much time they have spent on TikTok. It will provide a summary of their daily time spent in the app, the number of times they have opened the app, and a breakdown of day and night usage.

Currently, TikTok only has a daily screen time limit, which helps people decide how much time they want to spend on the app each day.

“We will also be introducing a weekly digital wellbeing guide for our younger community members. When someone between the ages of 13 and 17 has used the app for more than 100 minutes in a single day, we'll remind them of our screen timeout tool the next time they open the app," explains TikTok.

TikTok says the initiative is meant to help promote a healthy and positive relationship with technology and help people better decide how much time they want to spend on the app.

For users between the ages of 13 and 15, notifications after 9 p.m. will be automatically turned off, for those between 16 and 17, after 10 p.m.

In fact, both iPhones and Android phones have built-in screen time tracking that allows users to limit the amount of usage of certain apps, but with TikTok's Screen Time Breaks feature this is likely to be even more effective.
