BOE Expelled By Apple Will Not Produce IPhone 14 Screens, This Is The Cause!

JAKARTA - Apple adheres to strict quality control for its products. Of course, suppliers also have to follow the rules when producing certain spare parts, but it seems that Beijing Oriental Electronics (BOE) is ignoring this.

It is estimated that the screen manufacturer from China, BOE could lose 30 million screen orders for the upcoming iPhone 14, after reportedly changing the iPhone 13 screen design in order to increase the yield or production of products that are not defective.

According to a report by The Elec, BOE changed the width of the thin-film transistor circuitry on the iPhone 13 display without notifying Apple. Later, a BOE executive was sent to Apple's headquarters in Cupertino, United States (US) to clarify the incident.

This decision could continue to haunt the BOE, as Apple could stop the company from working on making OLED screens for the iPhone 14 as well. And sure enough, that BOE executive summons resulted in the company no longer taking orders from Apple, including the iPhone 14. Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 14 at an event this fall, but production for the display will begin as soon as next month.

In lieu of BOE, Apple will reportedly split 30 million screen orders between LG Display and Samsung Display, its two main display providers.

Samsung will likely produce 6.1 and 6.7-inch screens for the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro, while LG will make 6.7-inch screens for the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

According to MacRumors, quoted from The Verge, Sunday, May 22, BOE previously only produced screens for refurbished iPhones.

But seeing BOE's slick performance, Apple asked the company back to supply OLED screens for the new iPhone 12 in 2020, but its first panel failed to pass Apple's stringent quality control tests. Since the beginning of this year, BOE's output has also been affected by a shortage of display driver chips.
