JAKARTA - Sega announced that it plans to remove Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Sonic & Knuckles, and the Sonic CD before being re-released as a collection from Sonic Origins.

Sega has confirmed that every game that will be featured in Sonic Origins will be removed from the online storefront on May 20.

Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2 will still be available through Sega Ages for Nintendo Switch, and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will still be playable via Sega Genesis/Mega Drive for Nintendo Switch Online.

However, the original version of the title will no longer be available on the Xbox, PlayStation, and PC digital markets from late May.

Each classic Sonic game included will have new opening and closing animations and will feature Classic and Warning modes.

Classic Mode will display the game in its original resolution and have a limited life as it did in the 16-bit era.

Warning Mode, will give players unlimited lives and will present the game in a new widescreen resolution.

All of these games will be available as part of Sonic Origins, which launches on June 23, 2022. Because of this, the game's price tag is $39.99, which means it's a lot more expensive than the current retro version of the series.

For information, this decision was not only made by Sega, previously last year, Rockstar took similar steps when removing several Grand Theft Auto games before the release of GTA: The Trilogy.
