Tumblr Gets New Users In A Unique Way

JAKARTA - Tumblr is again trying to woo new users to the 15-year-old platform. The company now plans to target Gen Z.

This is because of the reported decline in new users caused by TikTok and regular users filling their Tumblr pages with content from the Chinese company, making the Tumblr market quite sinking.

Even so, it is likely that Tumblr is aware of something other than the problem of its competitors in getting new users, namely the difficulty of using the reblogging application.

This is nothing new, learning to use Tumblr always requires more manual work than almost any other social platform.

Tumblr features like tags and more can make it confusing for newcomers. Not long ago, Tumblr employees tackled this problem by promoting a series of recent posts on blog-like tips dubbed Hellsite High.

Hellsite High is a play on the user's nickname for the platform. Hellsite High contains topics such as Shitposting for Newbs and Saying Hi- From Super Public To Super Private, which will guide readers through the most common community uses for Tumblr features.

It may not appeal to casual users, but it's a treasure trove of cheat codes for newcomers who are curious and planning to make Tumblr their new home on the internet.

Indeed, the only confusing part is the outdated site design. But Hellsite High's painstaking effort on this concept was to deliver a mix of fonts, colors, and low-res clip art, which, ironically, made the most important information harder to read.

It was an unusual misstep for the Tumblr team, which usually delivers the best visuals, even as they struggle to satisfy their community.
