JAKARTA – The founder of Ethereum (ETH) Vitalik Buterin is reportedly donating funds to Ukraine in the form of ETH. Aid for Ukraine reports that the Ethereum founder donated 750 Ether (approximately IDR 35 billion).

For information, Aid for Ukraine is a joint initiative for crypto donations formed by the government, crypto exchange FTX, Everstake and Kuna. Apparently, the 750 Ethereum donation was sent to only one initiative.

It is recorded that Buterin made two donations, the first was sent to Aid for Ukraine, and the second was sent to the Unchain Fund. So, the total donation from Vitalik Buterin for Ukraine is 5 million US dollars or equivalent to Rp. 71.8 billion.

Despite the large amount of donations made by the founders of Ethereum, Vitalik did so discreetly. He doesn't talk much about those donations to people. The US$5 million ETH donation was made in early April.

In making the donation, Vitalik used the ENS (Ethereum Name Service) name, namely "vitalik.eth". This is a name that serves as a substitute for a wallet address that has complex combinations. The ENS also makes it easy to transfer cryptocurrencies.

According to Cointelegraph, half of the $5 million donation was sent directly to Aid for Ukraine, while the other half was sent to the Unchain Fund, a cryptocurrency charity initiative created by activists in the blockchain community to provide humanitarian assistance to Ukraine. Alex Bornyakov, Ukraine's deputy minister of Digital Transformation, publicly thanked Buterin's contribution in a tweet.

“I am very grateful for every crypto donation for our lifesaving initiative Aid for Ukraine. It really helps to strengthen our country and protect its democratic values. Special thanks to Vitalik Buterin for standing with Ukraine,” Bornyakov wrote.

A data report from Cointelegraph reports that the number of traceable crypto donations sent to the Ukrainian government, military and charities has exceeded 133 million US dollars (approximately Rp. 1.9 trillion). The Unchain Fund has raised more than US$10 million (Rp143 billion), with most of its contributions coming from NEAR and ETH tokens. Overall, however, it appears that the pace of donations has slowed.

The drop in donations was driven by the success of Ukrainian troops repelling Russian air strikes some time ago. While the increase in donations to Ukraine occurred on February 28 to March 9 last.
