JAKARTA – One of the main needs of electric cars is charging which must be easily available. For this reason, PT PLN (Persero) is committed to pampering electric car owners through home charging services. This is an important part of the country's stun company in supporting the acceleration of electric vehicles in Indonesia.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said that his party had discussed with the leadership of Toyota Manufacturing to collaborate in the development of the electric car ecosystem.

"The purchase of this electric car will immediately get home charging facilities. We will provide additional power, provide a 30 percent discount for home charging at night. So this is an easy way to pamper electric car users and specifically for Toyota, we have also had a long discussion about how assessments and others," said Darmawan at the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) Hybrid 2022 exhibition at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, Thursday, March 31, as quoted by Antara.

Currently, automotive companies are starting to include home charging packages in every electric car purchase unit and PLN provides home charging installation services for free, including providing promos in the form of additional power discounts.

Not only that, PLN also provides a 30 percent discount on electricity rates for electric car owners who charge via home charging facilities from 22.00 to 05.00 WIB.

Through the 30 percent discount on electricity rates, electric car owners will get a reduction in charging costs of IDR 350 per kWh from IDR 1,450 to IDR 1,100 per kWh.

Darmawan said that the latest electric cars are now able to cover a distance of 350 to 370 kilometers on a single charge, while the average use in the city is around 80 to 100 kilometers per day.

The long distance makes the power needs for electric cars can be met from home through home charging facilities.

"I have discussed with the leaders of Toyota Manufacturing that we will collaborate. We will facilitate later when there is an installation of purchasing an electric car like this, home charging is ready," said Darmawan.

He further emphasized PLN's seriousness in supporting the growth of the electric vehicle ecosystem so that it can help the government reduce fuel subsidies in the APBN, save foreign exchange, and create national energy independence.

Based on PLN calculations, electric vehicles produce much lower emissions than fuel-based vehicles because each use of one liter of fuel which is estimated to cover a distance of 10 kilometers will produce emissions of around 2.6 kilograms of carbon dioxide.

At the same distance, electric vehicles that use 1.5 kWh of energy only produce emissions of around 1.27 kilograms, which means there is a 50 percent reduction in emissions.

Meanwhile, in terms of costs incurred by consumers, the amount is also much cheaper. A fuel-based vehicle that covers a distance of 10 kilometers costs IDR 13,000 for each liter of gasoline, while an electric car only costs IDR 3,300 to cover the same distance.

Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartanto assessed that the transition to electric cars is a must for Indonesia to reduce imports and subsidies for fuel and create a cleaner environment.

"By providing vehicles whose target market is middle-income people so that utilization can increase, and encouraging the ability of people whose purchasing power is depressed due to the increase in prices of several commodities, one of which is fuel," said Airlangga.
