JAKARTA - Big data has become popular in this digital era, including in the business world. Big data processing is widely used to support the optimization of business people.
One of them is Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (IOH) which has been using big data since 2015 to support the company's digital transformation.
Vice President of Big Data Solution Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, Julian Mulya Wirawan, at the Selular Congress 2022 Webinar, Tuesday, March 29, explained the three main reasons why Indosat needs big data.
"80 percent of today's data is unstructured, with high volumes and high speeds that traditional data warehouses cannot modify and analyze," says Julian.
The next reason is that Julian thinks that traditional Data Warehouse Technology is too expensive and cannot be scalable.
In addition, Julian said, big data can generate new opportunities, new revenue streams, and provide better services. "Big data also creates cost savings and improves our customer experience," he added.
Julian also explained that Big Data will help to turn data into Insights, which then turn them into Actions. With the right technology and techniques, Big Data analytics will be able to answer complex questions.
There are several skills and techniques related to Big data according to Julian, the first is Statistics.
"The study of how to collect, organize, analyze and interpret numerical information from data. By analyzing primary data that has been collected to examine a particular hypothesis," he said.
The second skill is Data Mining, which is a discipline in the computational process of finding interesting previously unknown patterns in large data sets.

There is also machine learning, as computers can extract information automatically without human guidance. Algorithms make it possible to learn from and make predictions on the data.
Next up is AI, with AI intelligence we can use competent cutting-edge techniques to perform or imitate the cognitive functions associated with the human mind.
"Such as reasoning, knowledge, planning, learning, natural language processing, and problem-solving," continued Julian.
