Avary, World's Largest PCB Supplier Affected By Lockdown In Shenzhen, COVID-19 Still Serious?

JAKARTA - The government of the city of Shenzhen, which is located in the southern region of China and borders Hong Kong, has closed all residential areas and stopped transportation services starting in the early hours of Monday, March 14.

China was forced to close their doors until March 20 due to the worsening outbreak of COVID-19 cases there and also in Hong Kong since February 15.

The city known as "Silicon Valley" has a strict zero-COVID-19 strategy to combat the COVID-19 outbreak. The Chinese government went into lockdown at the same time.

The strategy is a distinct rarity by the Chinese government compared to that adopted by most in Europe and North America.

DigiTimes reports that some of the companies affected by the shutdown in Shenzhen include InnoLux and GIS, a monitor manufacturer. Foxconn and King Core, manufacturers of inductors. PCB drill manufacturing companies such as Topoint, cooling fan manufacturer Yen Sun Technology, as well as the world's largest PCB supplier, Avary.

Many of these producers also did not mention any supply issues due to the week-long shutdown. For example, AU Optronics, the main manufacturer of panels often found in gaming monitors. They have undertaken a work from home initiative in the region, although so far that has had no impact on its operations, reports DigiTimes.

DigiTimes also stated that, given the large number of laptop and component assembly manufacturers, and component manufacturers located elsewhere in the country, the shutdown should not have a major impact on the business.

There are fears that the lockdown will cause significant disruption to the busy port of Shenzhen, which is one of the world's largest ports. The lockdown could have a bad impact on supply as that is trying to recover after two years ago with the very bad state of COVID-19.
