JAKARTA - Space seems impatient with another human visit. Virgin Galactic is opening space travel ticket reservations to the general public starting today.

"We plan to have our first 1,000 customers at the start of commercial service later this year, providing a very strong foundation as we begin regular operations and scale up our fleet", Virgin Galactic CEO Michael Colglazier said in a statement.

Virgin Galactic ticket prices start at $450,000 each, the company revealed last year.

The company offers three different types of seats, namely purchasing single seats, package seats for couples, friends, or family, or booking the entire flight.

However, to purchase this ticket, prospective buyers must deposit $150,000 to $25,000, and are non-refundable with the balance to be paid before takeoff.

Launching CNET, Wednesday, February 16, Virgin Galactic's 90-minute space flight experience will take off from Spaceport America in New Mexico and promise perks such as luxury accommodations for the few days of training leading up to liftoff.

Later, the craft only reached the edge of space, not an orbital journey like the visitors to the International Space Station (ISS). Virgin Galactic passengers, will experience several minutes of weightlessness out of seats during flight, and the opportunity to gaze at Earth from the 17 windows lining the spacecraft.

Over the past decade, Virgin Galactic has had about 600 ticket reservations for future flights, with the vast majority selling for between $200,000 and $250,000 each passenger.

In August last year, the company opened ticket sales for $450,000 to those who had expressed interest. And generated about 100 additional tickets in November.

Virgin Galactic launched the first suborbital flight carrying a full crew of civilians last July, with billionaire and founder Richard Branson on board. The mission was touted as a successful step towards space tourism.
