JAKARTA – After nearly five years ago, when it first unveiled the ID Buzz concept at the Detroit auto show, Volkswagen is finally ready to show off a production-ready version of its beloved vehicle. VW CEO Herbert Diess tweeted that "legend is back" on March 9, along with a gif of the German automaker's iconic Microbus.
The VW Microbus reincarnated from the VW Combi, as an electric vehicle, was never a definite conclusion. But finally VW decided the green light for this concept car to be produced. It is even claimed to be ready to pave in 2023.

The vehicle is a clear homage to the iconic vehicle the company sold in North America between 1950 and 1980. The production version of the concept car is expected to deviate slightly from the original as all batteries will be installed under the floor. Imagine a Chevrolet Bolt that's longer and more van-like, then you can get an idea of what an electric VW will look like to drive.
According to The Verge report, they have been treated to an image of the ID Buzz cloaked in high-tech sensors and hardware in its role as an autonomous test vehicle in Germany. VW says the autonomous Microbus will serve as a platform for full-scale commercial transport and delivery operations, which it plans to launch in Germany in 2025.
But The Verge also still doesn't know many details about the upcoming EV. Including whether VW plans to stick with the slightly cheesy ID Buzz name. But we do know that the Microbus will be VW's mass-produced modular electric vehicle platform, or "MEB."
This model will join other MEB vehicles, including the ID 3 hatchback, ID 4 crossover SUV, and the upcoming ID 5 sporty SUV. VW may have lost the trust of consumers after the diesel emissions scandal. But the electric car reincarnation of the iconic Microbus, is perhaps the best thing to address some of that skepticism.
