Jidu Auto Challenges The Transport World By Launching Automotive Robots In 2023, It's The Vehicle Of The Future!

JAKARTA – Baidu's Chief Executive, Robin Li, said Jidu Auto will start mass production of its first "robot" electric vehicle in 2023.

Jidu, a joint electric vehicle venture between Chinese tech giant Baidu and Chinese automaker Geely. Jidu will make EVs (electric vehicles) that are claimed to be Level four autonomous, which no longer require human intervention when driving. This was confirmed by Li at Baidu's annual developer conference on Monday, December 27.

In Baidu's official Twitter account, Li also mentioned that the era of human-computer symbiosis has arrived. “Creators will usher in the "golden era" of #AI over the next 10 years, using these powerful tools to change the world. #2021BaiduCreate.”

According to Li, intelligent transportation will undergo a significant transformation in the next 10-40 years. Purchase restrictions imposed today on cars in China's first-tier cities will be lifted in 5 years, and in 10 years, traffic-optimized traffic will solve (occurring) urban congestion.

Li believes that intelligent transportation can solve three main problems: First, it can reduce traffic accidents by up to 90%. Second, the problem of city congestion can be solved. Lastly, autonomous driving and smart transportation will help reduce carbon emissions.

From autonomous driving to smart cars and smart roads, Baidu has deeply integrated AI, 5G, and cloud computing into the transportation sector. With a total of 115.000 rides provided in the third quarter of 2021, Baidu's autonomous ride-hailing platform "Apollo Go" has also become the world's largest provider of autonomous mobility services.

Baidu's future goal is to expand its "Apollo Go" service to 65 cities by 2025 and 100 cities by 2030. Baidu AIR's intelligent road system will achieve real-time optimization of "city-level" signal control at hundreds of thousands of road junctions, greatly improving vehicle safety for millions of kilometers across the country.

Baidu believes that automotive robots will be the ultimate form of vehicle transportation in the future. Having L4 intelligent driving capability, Baidu's smart EV venture, Jidu Auto, has been designed to operate under the concepts of "free movement", "natural communication", and "self-improvement".

Li said that Jidu plans to release its first concept car in the first half of 2022, followed by mass production and delivery in 2023.

What Li emphasized is a sign of Baidu's seriousness to compete with other electric car and autonomous car manufacturers such as Tesla. The car factory owned by Elon Musk is known to have a very good market share in China.

The emergence of Baidu with Level four autonomous cars, will certainly disrupt Tesla's market dominance as an autonomous car in the world.
