JAKARTA - Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has shown no support or interest in the metaverse and Web 3.0 ecosystems. He rejected the term because it had been used as a buzzword and a marketing ploy.

"I don't see someone putting a goddamn screen in their face all day," Musk said in an interview with The Babylon Bee when asked about his thoughts on the metaverse ecosystem. "I don't know if I should buy this metaverse item, even though people talk to me a lot about it."

Talking about the metaverse and virtual reality (VR), Musk said that he doesn't see a future where one has to leave the physical world to live virtually. Sharing personal experience, he added that VR headsets tend to trigger motion sickness while playing video games.

“In the long run, the state-of-the-art Neuralink can put you completely into virtual reality. I think we're a long way from disappearing into the metaverse, these sound like buzzwords," Musk said, quoted by Cointelegraph.

Musk founded Neuralink, a neurotechnology company that aims to deploy implants into the brain in humans to restore and enhance physical abilities via computers.

“Right now I can't see any interesting metaverse situations or Web 3 sounds like more of a marketing technique than reality. I don't understand, and maybe I will, but I don't understand yet," Musk said.

Musk also highlighted that people wouldn't like to move around with a VR headset without wanting to leave it. She also recalls being warned growing up not to sit too close to the TV.

“It will damage your eyesight, right? And now we have TV literally here (in the face). what am I like? Is that good for you?”

Adding to his role as Dogecoin's most influential supporter, Musk recently also expressed support for the crypto. He calls crypto indestructible and basically aims to reduce the power of centralized governments.

“It is impossible to destroy crypto, but it is possible for the government to slow its progress,” Musk said as reported by Cointelegraph, at the Code Conference in California.

He also suggested that the United States government “do nothing” when asked about its views on crypto regulation.
