JAKARTA - After Instagram Reels, now Pinterest is also adopting the TikTok feature, which allows users to reply to comments with videos. This option can now be done through the Idea Pins feature.

It is known, Idea Pins appeared earlier this year where users can record and edit videos with content up to 20 pages. In addition, users can also use tools such as voice over recordings, background music, transitions, and other interactive elements.

Now, when users find a comment they want to respond to, they can select the three-dot menu and click reply with Idea Pins. From there, users can choose to record a new video or upload an existing one.

“There are more ways than ever to engage with your community on Pinterest. Now you can respond to all comments, questions and requests with customized Idea Pins replies," Pinterest said in a statement quoted from TechCrunch, Wednesday, December 15.

"We want to avoid you and your thumbs from having to bother replying to text like a long novel because some things are better when displayed."

It is known that Instagram a few days ago also launched a similar feature to Pinterest. Dubbed Reels Visual Replies, they allow users to reply to comments on uploads with videos. That means, when a user chooses to reply to a comment, they will see a new option that gives the user the option to create a video reply.

However, neither Instagram nor Pinterest were pioneers of this feature. The first time the video reply feature was popularized by TikTok. The short video platform launched video replies last year to give users a way to offer more context about their videos and answer questions.

Since the feature is so popular, it's no surprise that Instagram and Pinterest are rolling out similar features for their own platforms. Pinterest is not alone in doing so, as TikTok has sparked clones across the top social media platforms, including Instagram, YouTube, Snap, Reddit, and others.

For your information, Pinterest has rolled out several new features aimed at content creators over the past few months. The company has invested in creation and video tools with the acquisition of video creation and editing app Vochi.

Pinterest is also launching a new way for users to browse Idea Pin videos on TikTok-like "Watch" tabs, where it's awarding $20 million in creator awards.
