JAKARTA - Sporting director Leonardo denied that Paris Saint-Germain would release Sergio Ramos. However, former PSG player and current RMC Sport commentator Jerome Rothen has criticized it.
Spain international Ramos joined the Ligue 1 giants on a free transfer in the summer after he failed to agree a contract with Real Madrid.
Ramos missed most of the second half of last season through injury, and hasn't even trained with PSG let alone played.
Reportedly, the French capital club could terminate the contract of Ramos who has not recovered from injury.
On Monday, former Milan star Leonardo slammed the rumours, accusing the Spanish press of "playing" over four-time Champions League winner Ramos.
However, Leonardo's answer was not enough to satisfy Rothen, who spent six years at PSG before undergoing a loan spell at Ibrox while defending Rangers.
"No problem. But if he knew that he (Leonardo) should have made it clear that he (Ramos) will not resume training on November 1. And he (Ramos) will be paid for not doing anything," Rothen told RMC Sport regarding the answer Leonardo about Ramos.
"The problem is there are internal questions and that's a problem."
"Then tell us when he will return to training and when he will play again.
"How will Sergio Ramos get back to his best? In two or three games? It's impossible."
In mid-September, Rothen also criticized the former Los Blancos captain who was originally expected to make his debut against Metz but did not play.
"Containing a calf muscle injury towards the end of a career is really bad news because it's an injury you rarely fully recover from," said Rothen.
"Once a player improves his rhythm, either during matches or in training with PSG, he may not be able to continue.
"And when a player reaches a certain age, he needs to play a number of games to get back to form.
"Will he be able to return to the top level if he has constant pain in his calf? I have very doubts about that."
