Papua Hands Over The Sticks For The Implementation Of PON To Aceh And North Sumatra, Hosts The 2024 Edition

JAKARTA - Papua has officially handed over the baton for the implementation of PON to Aceh and North Sumatra, which will host the next biggest sporting event in the country in 2024.

Taking place at the Lukas Enembe Stadium, Jayapura Regency, Friday night WIT, previously the PON flag was lowered which marked the end of the Papua PON accompanied by the song Bagimu Negeri.

After that, the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe, accompanied by the Daily Chair of PB PON Papua, Yunus Wonda, returned the PON flag to the General Chair of the National Sports Committee (KONI) Marciano Norman.

Then, Marciano handed over the PON flag to representatives from Aceh and North Sumatra who would host the 2024 PON.

Launching Antara, Marciano first handed the PON flag to the Regional Secretary (Sekda) Aceh, Taqwallah, who represented the Governor of Aceh Ir. H. Nova Iriansyah.

After that, Marciano also gave the baton to host the PON to the Governor of North Sumatra, Edy Rahmayadi.

After the procession of handing over the PON flag to the 2024 host, Aceh performed the Ratoh Duek dance, while those from North Sumatra performed the traditional dances of Nias, Karo, Toba.

PON 2024 will be rolled out for the first time in two provinces. This is stated in the Decree (SK) of the Minister of Youth and Sports Number 71 of 2020 concerning the determination of the Aceh provincial government and the North Sumatra government as the host of the XXI National Sports Week in 2024.

As for the Papua PON, the West Java contingent won the overall title and maintained its position as the defending champion with a collection of 133 gold medals, 105 silver medals and 115 bronze medals.

The Jakarta contingent took second place with 110 gold medals, 91 silver medals and 100 bronze medals. The third position was occupied by the East Java team who collected 110 gold, 89 silver and 88 bronze.

Meanwhile, the host team Papua collected 93 gold medals, 66 silver medals and 102 bronze medals. The Papuan team took fourth place.
