The Host Becomes the General Champion in Three Sports Branches of Papua National Sports Week Whose Matches Are Completed

JAKARTA - The Host, Papua. performed brilliantly at the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON), and this was proven by those who were able to appear mighty so that they became the best or overall champions in three sports that had completed their matches.

The three sports in which host Papua is the best is muaythai. The home team successfully won six gold, four silver, and three bronze. Next, bodybuilding with three gold and futsal with one gold.

Based on data compiled from the official website of Papua PON, Wednesday, there are 12 sports that have completed their matches even though this four-year championship will only be closed on October 15.

In addition to futsal, bodybuilding, and muaythai, sports that have also been completed are rollerblading, cricket, water polo, judo, wushu, canoeing, taekwondo, baseball, and men's softball.

If Papua controls the three branches, DKI Jakarta becomes the overall champion of roller skating with 13 gold, eight silver, and two bronze medals. Next, water polo with one gold and baseball one gold.

The West Java contingent defended the title of overall taekwondo champion with nine gold medals, three silver medals, and three bronze medals. Next, water polo with one gold and one silver. In addition, a canoe with seven gold, three silver, and three bronze.

"The target has been achieved and we will try to maintain it in the next PON," said West Java Taekwondo Regional Executive Chairman Benny Rizal Gautama in Jayapura.

He said at Papua PON, West Java actually targets 10 gold medals. However, with the achievement of nine gold medals as well as being the overall champion, the target is considered to have been achieved.

Bali became the ruler of two sports, namely cricket with three gold medals, two silver medals, and one bronze medal, and judo with six gold and six bronze medals.

"We got two gold medals in Riau PON 2012 and two gold medals at West Java PON 2016. From there, we are serious about improving athletes, management, management, and coaching. We have been serious about this since 2017," said Bali judo team manager Agus Putra Adnyana.

According to Agus, their achievement in this year's PON was very satisfying because they not only exceeded the target of five gold medals, but also won the overall title by sitting at the top of the standings until the judo match ended.

The East Java contingent became the best in the wushu sport with six gold medals, four silver medals, and five bronze medals. Meanwhile, Lampung won one gold from the men's softball.

Papua PON, which was held on October 2-15, featured 37 sports, 56 disciplines, and 681 match numbers. Papua PON will run until October 15, and the locations of the matches are spread across four clusters, namely Jayapura Regency and City, Mimika, and Merauke.
