JAKARTA - Verawaty Fajrin is lying in the hospital due to suffering from cancer. The news about the illness of the Indonesian badminton legend was first uploaded by Rosiana Tandean on her Facebook page.

"The queen of Indonesian badminton in the 1980s, Verawati Fajrin, is now lying helpless. Cancer disease is eating away at her body," wrote Rosiana, who is also a former badminton player.

Verawaty had undergone chemotherapy at Friendship Hospital. But because his condition did not improve, with the help of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Health, Verawaty was transferred to Dharmais Hospital.

Verawaty's condition then gradually improved and was able to return home. But a few days ago his condition worsened again, Verawaty was rushed back to Dharmais Hospital.

"The former 180 women's singles world champion is only a BPJS Class 2 card holder. In a worrying condition, the winner of the 2021 Haornas award must wait in the transit room because the HCU is full. We ask the government to help with treatment so that Verawati's condition can improve," continued Rosiana.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports, through Sesmepora Gatot S Dewabroto, said that his party continues to communicate with the family and Dharmais Hospital to monitor Verawaty's condition. Currently, the membership status of BPJS Verawaty has been raised.

"The Dharmais Hospital's assistance has been extraordinary and currently its BPJS membership status has been raised. We always communicate with the hospital. His current condition requires more intensive treatment," said Gatot in his official statement.
