Performing Brilliantly Since Anchoring At Old Trafford, Man United Are Ready To Reward Fernandes For Contract Extension

JAKARTA - Bruno Fernandes is negotiating a contract extension with Manchester United. The Portuguese player and Paul Pogba are top priorities to keep at Old Trafford.

The Portugal midfielder has been in scintillating form since joining the Red Devils in January 2020 from Sporting Lisbon, scoring 44 goals in 85 games and turning into one of the key players in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

Fernandes is already tied to United until the summer of 2025 but the club are already looking to reward Fernandes for his outstanding performances.

Citing journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Daily Mail website reports that United and Fernandes are engaged in 'positive talks' regarding the midfielder's contract extension.

Romano added United hope the 27-year-old is tied to a new contract later this year and negotiations have been ongoing since July.

Fernandes seems keen to stay at Old Trafford and the new deal will be a boost for the club who are also looking to keep team-mate Paul Pogba.

Both players have been key players in Solskjaer's attacking team this season, which is expected to strengthen further since Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho joined the club.

The French midfielder, who joined in 2016 for a then-world record fee of £89 million, is slowly gaining Solskjaer's backing but is out of contract next summer.

The 28-year-old is now reportedly leaning towards staying with Manchester United where talks over an extension of his current contract will soon take place.

So far Pogba's refusal to extend his contract has raised concerns at Old Trafford that he could leave on a free transfer next summer.

But The Athletic say United's 4-1 win over Newcastle last week has had a big impact on Pogba and has cast doubt on leaving Solskjaer's side.

Pogba took his assists tally this season to seven in just four league games after assisting Bruno Fernandes and Jesse Lingard against Steve Bruce's side.
