Origi Starts And Assists Salah, Klopp: Football Is A Crazy Place, People Forget How Great He Is

JAKARTA - Jurgen Klopp said Divock Origi's performance when Liverpool beat AC Milan 3-2 in the Champions League was a clear example of how easy it is for people to forget things in the world of football.

Origi started early and marked his form with a fine assist for Liverpool's second goal scored by Mohamed Salah early in the second half at Anfield on Wednesday local time.

"He's an extraordinary striker and tonight did very well, especially for a player who hasn't played in a long time since he started," he added.

Origi, continued Klopp, also showed that the competition within the Liverpool squad was so tight that the striker who was identical with his two goals during the remontada against Barcelona in the 2018/19 Champions League semifinals even had difficulty getting a place.

Klopp also admitted he thought Origi would have chosen to leave Liverpool in the transfer market last summer, in order to play more minutes, but in the end the player who rose to the top in the 2014 World Cup decided to stay and fight for the main place.

"To be honest, I thought he might have left last summer, but the world of football is a crazy place and people seem to forget how great Origi is," he said.

"Once again I say, winning the main place in this team is difficult. That's how it is and I have to continue to make decisions in several positions."

"Likewise with Divock, he hasn't done anything wrong. He trains hard, gives everything and sometimes it's still not enough to get into the squad," Klopp concluded.

Origi had to come off in the 63rd minute after sitting for a long time in the middle of the pitch and was eventually replaced by Sadio Mane, but Klopp confirmed that the 26-year-old forward had only a cramp and not a serious injury.
