JAKARTA - The pair Greysia Polii/Apriyani Rahayu won the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics after eliminating the Chinese women's doubles Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yi Fan on Monday, August 2.

In the women's double badminton final which lasted for 55 minutes at Musashino Forest Sport Plaza, Tokyo, Japan, Greysia/Apriyani won in two games with a score of 21-19, 21-15, as reported by Antara from the BWF website.

Chen/Jia won the opening points in the first game. But they can be overtaken by Greysia/Apriyani and the position is 1-1. After that, Indonesia's representative took the lead and won the next points, with Chen/Jia's condition continuing to be tight.

Both pairs were back to a 12-12 draw. Greysia/Apriyani increased the tempo of the game. They took the lead and widened the gap 19-14 with Chen/Jia.

Their opponent tried to catch up. However, Greysia/Apriyani were quicker to secure the final points, thus winning the first game 21-19.

In the second game, it was Greysia/Apriyani's turn to steal the opening points. But they both drew 1-1 again. Luckily, their opponent made a lot of mistakes, so Greysia/Apriyani won 7-2 and continued to add more points.

Chen/JIa trailed 8-13 and still made some mistakes. Greysia/Apriyani took advantage of this condition to get a lot of points.

Taking the lead, Greysia/Apriyani released the final smash confidently and closed the match with a 21-15 victory.

With these results, Greysia/Apriyani won the championship crown and brought home a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Head-to-head, Chen/Jia are actually superior because they are the world's number two pair, while Greysia/Apriyani are in sixth place.

In addition, Chen/Jia also won 6-3 on aggregate from their total nine meetings with Greysia/Apriyani.

Furthermore, Indonesia still has the men's singles, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, who will fight for the bronze medal against the 58th ranked player from Guatemala Kevin Cordon at 18.00 p.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB).
