Not Afraid Of UEFA Threats Over The European Super League, Agnelli: We Open The Doors For Dialogue

JAKARTA - Juventus president Andrea Agnelli said he still respects UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin and is ready to be invited to discuss the European Super League project if his interlocutor is willing.

Agnelli's Juventus along with Real Madrid and Barcelona were the three remaining teams among the initiators who persisted with their project of holding a midweek league match against the Champions League.

The Spanish commercial court in Madrid on Thursday issued a ruling that UEFA must cancel all sanctions they have imposed on the three clubs and nine other initiating teams that have withdrawn from the European Super League project.

The court also asked the EU Court to determine whether FIFA and UEFA violated EU competition regulations by preventing the creation of the European Super League in May.

These things are additional impetus for Agnelli and his allies in their efforts to change the structure of European football.

"I reiterate our willingness to have a dialogue on how to deal with the fundamental problems in European football," Agnelli told a news conference.

"We are not afraid of threats and believe that our legal actions will yield satisfactory results, but the greatest success is opening the door to dialogue," he added.

When the European Super League was proclaimed last April, UEFA condemned the project even Ceferin, who previously had close ties to Agnelli, called the Juventus president a "snake".

Simultaneously with the proclamation of the European Super League, Agnelli left the chair of president of the European Club Association (ECA) as well as his post on the UEFA executive commission.

He also reiterated his belief that Juventus, together with Real Madrid and Barcelona, will continue to feature in the 2021/22 Champions League despite the threat of a UEFA disciplinary investigation which was later suspended in mid-June.

"We are very confident that we will play in the 2021/22 Champions League," said Agnelli.

"I respect Ceferin, but those in the business world know exactly what a no-disclosure agreement means, so, with me stepping down from all positions, I believe I'm doing the right thing.

"I believe time will unravel all these misunderstandings," he concluded.
