KONI Chairman Believes North Sulawesi Sports Will Achieve Achievements With Local Government Support

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Central KONI Marciano Norman inaugurated Steven Kandouw as chairman of the North Sulawesi KONI for the 2021-2025 term. Steven replaces Olly Dondokambey who has been in charge for two periods.

Marciano believes KONI North Sulawesi can produce outstanding athletes with maximum local government support. This belief was conveyed when discussing Indonesia's target in 2032 to enter the top 10.

"This can be achieved if the Chairperson of KONI for each province optimally conducts sports coaching correctly and gets full support from the regional government," said the Head of the Central KONI, Marciano Norman in a statement quoted on Sunday, June 20.

"I believe for North Sulawesi (achievement) because the Governor is the former Chairman of KONI and now the Deputy Governor," he continued.

As the new Chairman of the North Sulawesi KONI, Steven Kandouw is expected to be able to lead athletes to achieve achievements.

"The support from the local government, in this case the Governor of North Sulawesi, for sports achievements in this area is very large, therefore it is a difficult task for the Chair of the North Sulawesi KONI to answer the challenge with achievements," said Marciano hopeful.

The Governor of North Sulawesi Olly Dondokambey conveyed the same hope. He is optimistic that North Sulawesi's sporting achievements will get better under Steven's leadership.

"I am the Governor of North Sulawesi, of course I feel proud and happy because the General Chairperson of the North Sulawesi KONI, Mr. Steven, is really a person who likes sports," said Olly.

In addition to having a commitment to sports, Steven will also be supported by qualified facilities. According to Olly, North Sulawesi is currently fixing sports facilities and infrastructure. This support is given because of the view of the importance of the benefits of exercise.

"Sport is a trigger for success because it gives spirit to all of us," said Olly.

"KONI's road map going forward is to prioritize mainstay sports in North Sulawesi in collaboration with sports stakeholders in North Sulawesi and the provincial government, district / city governments," he continued.
