Argentina Starts Adventure In Copa America 2021 With A Draw Score

JAKARTA - Argentina had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Chile in their first match at the 2021 Copa America at the Olympic Stadium, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Tuesday WIB.

As reported by Antara, Argentina was able to create many chances, but they were only able to score one goal through Lionel Messi's sensational free-kick.

While Chile was only able to threaten the goal of Argentina several times. Their goal was scored by Eduardo Vargas after using the wild ball from Arturo Vidal's penalty.

Chile started the game by pressing Argentina first, but Team Tango managed to escape the pressure and created some dangerous chances.

In the 12th minute, Giovanni Lo Cleso sent a pass to the far post, but Lautaro Martinez's strike still did not meet the target after being overshadowed by opposing players.

Chile hit back two minutes later. Meneses was intent on teaming up with Palacio at the far post, but Otamendi could read the attack and cut his pass.

Argentina threatened again in the 16th minute through Nicolas Gonzalez's shot after getting a brilliant pass from Lo Celso. However, goalkeeper Cladio Bravo is still too tough to beat.

Gonzalez again had a dangerous opportunity, his collaboration with Lo Celso left the player facing Bravo. Unfortunately, Gonzalez's shot still leads right to Bravo.

Argentina's efforts finally paid off in the 34th minute, Messi brought Argentina 1-0 lead through a free-kick.

Starting from a foul on Lo Celso, the referee gave Argentina a free kick in a dangerous position. Lionel Messi appeared as the executor and then fired an accurate shot that led to the top corner of the Chile goal without Bravo being able to hold it.

Now it was Lautaro's turn to miss a golden opportunity to score. In the 38th minute, Messi's pass hit an opposing player, and then Gonzalo Montiel passed it to Lautaro.

Although in a free position, Lautaro failed to make a cheat so the ball still deviated from the Chile goal. Argentina's 1-0 advantage lasted until the first half was over.

Vidal took the penalty himself, but his shot was saved by goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. The ball then bounced off the bar before being headed in by Vargas to make it 1-1 in the 57th minute.

Argentina tried to regain their lead and played more attacking.

In the 79th minute, Messi opened up opportunities for Argentina after his late cross headed for Gonzalez who was in a one-on-one position with Bravo. However, his header still bounced.

Argentina continues to pound Chile's defense. In the last five minutes, Angel Di Maria rounded a number of Chile defenders, but his shot went wide.

In injury time, Messi made a header towards the goal. Bravo didn't react quickly, but Roco was in the right position to throw the ball away.

Towards the end of the game, Argentina asked for a penalty after Gonzalo Montiel did a handball in the forbidden box. However, after the VAR examination, the referee did not consider it a violation.

The match finally ended, the score of 1-1 remained.
