Euro 2020, Czech Republic Vs Scotland: Silhavy Squad's Mission Turns Fate

JAKARTA - The Czech Republic will face Scotland at Hampden Park, Glasgow, Monday at 20.00 p.m. local time in the Euro 2020 Group D match. The two teams have met twice in the last nine months in the Nation League event where the Czechs have not won once.

The Czechs, since breaking out from Czechoslovakia, have almost always qualified for the Euro finals starting in 1996 in England where they were runners-up and became semifinalists in 2004 in Portugal. The meeting with Scotland was their chance to end a series of defeats against their opponents since 2011.

Czech coach Jaroslav Silhavy will make the two previous meetings a valuable experience to turn his fortunes around.

"We hope the experience against Scotland will come in handy and we can finally beat them", said Silhavy.

Although the statistics are not in favor of the Czechs, Silhavy is determined to win the match because losing or drawing will complicate their Euro 2020 journey because the next two opponents are very strong, namely England and Croatia who are World Cup finalists.

He will rely on the Slavia Prague legions, who reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League, to make his wish come true.

But Silhavy wasn't the only one who thought so. Scottish manager Steve Clarke also sees England and Croatia as big obstacles in eliminating the title of complement to the tournament. Scotland is desperate to reach the group stage after failing in 1992 in Sweden and 1996 in England.

The Czechs' 3-1 win over Albania a few days ago ended three games without having lost but four of five away.

The Czechs have played at Hampden Park six times and drew 2-2 in September 2011 being the only game in which they have avoided defeat.
