JAKARTA - The Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia) encourages cross-stakeholder synergy to ensure the sustainability of national sports financing, especially in the face of various multi-branch sports agendas this year.
The President of the Indonesian NOC, Raja Sapta Oktohari, said that his party had taken proactive steps to open communication with the Government, especially regarding the sports budget policy which is the main foundation for athlete training.
"We see that regulators in this case have a strategic role in determining the direction of budget financing policies. Therefore, we have communicated with the sports branches. They agreed to have a direct dialogue with the Minister of Finance," said Okto, the nickname of Raja Sapta Oktohari.
The Indonesian NOC has sent a letter to the Minister of Finance earlier this week. The letter contains a request for an audience to comprehensively discuss the needs and characteristics of national sports financing, which is currently centered on the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora).
Okto said that they were waiting for the opportunity to discuss directly with the Ministry of Finance because so many sports agendas require careful preparation.
"The main need of athletes is quality training and it is not enough just in the country, but it must also be accompanied by training concentration abroad and international level competitions," he said.
In the near future, Indonesia will face a number of important agendas such as the 2026 Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya, the 2026 Youth Olympic Games Dakar, the 2026 Asian Indoor Martial Art Games Riyadh, the 2027 SEA Games Malaysia, and the long preparation for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Okto emphasized that all of these agendas require structured, sustainable, and targeted financing support.
"There are many activities that require a joint commitment. This is not only the responsibility of one party, but the collaboration of all national sports stakeholders," he said.
The efficiency of the Government's budget makes the coaching and preparation of athletes to face events such as the Asian Games disturbed. The aquatic federation even had to send their athletes back to their clubs while waiting for certainty of the budget.
In addition, the 2026 National Sports Week (Popnas) and the 2026 National Sports Training Center (Spobnas) program were also temporarily suspended.
