Hamilton Not Interested In Taking Part In Virtual Racing

JAKARTA - Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton is a video game addict. So far, however, he has not taken part in virtual racing and has only raced himself.

Although he admits that he is quite good at racing in video games, Hamilton said that he is not a fan of simulator games.

"I've never ridden a simulator. I think it's very difficult because the movements are never perfect," said the British racer. Launching Sky Sports, Monday, May 11.

"You (race) at home on a simulator, then the seat doesn't move. Your mind says the car is moving, but you can't feel the movements," he continued.

For several years Hamilton has been the ambassador of the popular video game brand on the Sony Playstation Gran Turismo. He claims it is difficult to beat his own record in video games.

"I've been working with them for the last few years, and I'm taking on challenges like this, surpassing my own record," Hamilton said.

Hamilton often plays the shooting video game Call of Duty with Alpha Tauri driver Pierre Gasly and Ferrari driver Charles Lecrec.

"I was racing alone, trying to beat my own time and things like that. It's frustrating because I think my timing is pretty good," he added.

Like other riders, Hamilton was absent from racing due to the COVID-19 pandemic forcing this season's Formula 1 to be suspended.

Formula 1 has not raced since December last year, but operators hope to continue the season by racing behind closed doors in Austria in July.

To fill the void, riders often race virtually. But not Hamilton.
