Kuwaiti Tycoon Becomes President Of International Swimming Federation

JAKARTA - Husain Al-Musallam, a conglomerate from Kuwait was elected president of the International Swimming Federation (FINA) at a large congress in Doha, Qatar. He received a majority of the 183 delegates.

"This is the start of a new journey with the Aquatic sports family, and it is an honor to be elected as your President," said Husain Al-Musallam as quoted from the FINA website, Sunday, June 6.

Reported by Reuters, the Kuwaiti figure admitted that he would not take a penny from his work with FINA. He also promised to distribute any payments due to him to the members of the bureau.

Al-Musallam previously served as vice president for Julio Maglione from Uruguay, since 2009. Apart from himself, Sam Ramsamy from South Africa was also elected as the first vice president of this world swimming management organization.
