Fiorentina And Sampdoria Confirm New Positive Cases Of COVID-19

JAKARTA - Fiorentina announced that three players and three technical staff members tested positive for COVID-19 after a medical examination carried out on Wednesday.

I Viola said the unnamed people would remain in independent isolation. However, the first team training activities are expected to continue this week.

In March, Patrick Cutrone, German Pezzella, and Dusan Vlahovic were confirmed to have COVID-19. Vlahovic first revealed this in an Instagram post, when he suffered from a fever that reached 39 degrees Celsius. Last month, the club confirmed that all three were declared cured.

Not only Fiorentina, four Sampdoria players also tested positive for COVID-19 after undergoing tests. One of them was even players who were previously declared cured of this virus.

Sampdoria, which announced five of its players had recovered from COVID-19 last month, confirmed they had quarantined four of its team members who were not showing any symptoms.

"UC Sampdoria informs that, during the tests carried out by the players, three new positive results for COVID-19 and the return of one previously recovered positive case," Sampdoria revealed on their official website.

"Currently asymptomatic, they have been placed in quarantine and will continue to be monitored according to protocol."

Manolo Gabbiadini, Omar Colley, Albin Ekdal, Antonino La Gumina and Morten Thorsby have previously tested positive, but Sampdoria did not reveal the identities of the latest cases.

Meanwhile, Italian clubs are said to be unanimous in their support for the resumption of the 2019-20 season which was suspended in March. However, until now there is no definite date regarding this matter.

Sports minister Vincenzo Spadafora said this week it was not possible to be specific about a possible resumption of competition. The reason is, the Italian government has measurable measures that prevent players from attending the club's training facilities.

"We have to see how the curve of transmission will develop in the next two weeks," he told Football Italia, Friday, May 9.

Defending champions Juventus were one point ahead of Lazio at the top of the table when the campaign was halted. Meanwhile Fiorentina are 13th, nine points adrift of the European zone and only five points ahead of the bottom three.
