JAKARTA - The PSSI Ordinary Congress which was held in Jakarta, last Saturday, decided three important points regarding the implementation of the 2021-2022 Liga 1 season, which is planned to be held from next July. What are they?

First, the 2021-2021 Liga 1 season will take place 'bubble to bubble'. Second, there are a total of 306 matches to be played. And third, there is still a promotion-relegation scheme.

"League 1 continues with a league format. There are 306 matches, but the system is different from the previous one, namely 'bubble to bubble'," said PSSI Deputy General Chair Iwan Budianton after the congress, reported by Antara.

The concept of 'bubble to bubble', explained Iwan, will divide Liga 1 into six series which will be held in three clusters on the island of Java and the projection is still without spectators.

The first cluster covers West Java, Banten, DKI Jakarta. The second cluster is Central Java and DI Yogyakarta, then the third cluster is East Java.

Later, series one will take place in the first cluster, series two in the second cluster, and the third series in the third cluster. Then it continues to the fourth series which remains in the third cluster, then the fifth series in the second cluster and the sixth or last series returns to the first cluster.

"After completing a series that lasted about 1.5 months, each team got a few weeks off to practice and could also eliminate boredom. Then, they competed again in the next series," said Iwan.

During the competition, he continued, the clubs will stay in hotels located in the match cluster at the expense of PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB). This makes it easier for PSSI and LIB to monitor the implementation of the COVID-19 prevention health protocol.

Iwan also added that the schedule for Liga 1 2021-2022 seems to have been pushed back from the plan to July 10, 2021.

"However, the target for completion remains March 2022," said Iwan.

While the matter of promotion-relegation, it was previously agreed by PSSI to remain in League 1 and 2.

However, LIB Operational Director Sudjarno said that it had not been decided how many clubs would be relegated from Liga 1 and promoted from Liga 2.

"If the number has not been decided. The regulations will be formulated again by PSSI," said Sudjarno.

Cluster 1: West Java, Banten, DKI Jakarta.

Cluster 2: Central Java and DI Yogyakarta.

Cluster 3: East Java.
