AS Roma Eliminated, Torino Meets Inter Milan in the Quarterfinals of the Coppa Italia

JAKARTA - AS Roma was eliminated in the 16th round of the Coppa Italia. Playing at home at the Olimpico Stadium, Wednesday, January 14, 2026 WIB, Roma was forced to surrender 3-2 when hosting Torino. The victory brought Torino to meet the seeded team Inter Milan in the quarter finals.

Roma, who are trying to enter the Champions League zone, look less serious in the Coppa Italia. Coach Gian Piero overhauled almost the entire squad when facing Torino, who are in the middle of the Italian Serie A.

Not only that, Gasperini also experimented by playing Zeki Celik and Jan Ziolkowski as defenders. Meanwhile, the mainstay center back Gianluca Mancini was not played. Likewise Paulo Dybala and Evan Ferguson who have always been the first choice as a center forward.

In the front line, Gasperini relies on Matias Soule who remains the first choice along with Stephan El Shaarawy and Leon Bailey. Meanwhile, Bryan Cristante replaced Manu Kone to layer the attack from the middle.

In the second half, Roma took the initiative to attack with the entry of Evan Ndicka who had just appeared in the African Cup. Defender Mario Hermoso was also played in place of Ziolkowski.

Hermoso's entry made the Giallorossi attack more alive. It turned out that the match only lasted 30 seconds, he who layered Bailey successfully broke into the Torino goal.

Behind 2-1, Gasperini finally included Dybala and Kone. He also gave a chance to young player Antonio Arena who made his debut in the senior team.

The arena, who is still 16 years old, did not waste the trust given by Gasperini. He managed to break the deadlock when finishing Franca's pass in the 81st minute. His header successfully changed the score to 2-2.

The goal also raised the adrenaline of the Roma players and opened the opportunity for the match to be resolved through a penalty shootout. However, Torino managed to take advantage of the opportunity when the match was about to end.

In the 90th minute, Torino got a corner kick which created a mess in front of the Roma goal. Svilar's goalkeeper actually managed to block the ball into the goal. However, the ball slipped which was then taken by Emirhan Ilkhan. Torino's late goal because Roma didn't have a chance to catch up.

The score of 3-2 lasted until the end of the match. Torino also qualified for the quarter finals. Only Inter is a tough opponent and currently tops the standings waiting for El Toro.
