Lando Norris World Champion F1 2025, Winning Only Two Points From Verstappen

JAKARTA Lando Norris is only two points ahead of his rival Max Verstappen to seal the 2025 Formula 1 (F1) world title after finishing third in the last Grand Prix of the season in Abu Dhabi.

The 26-year-old British racer who defended McLaren only needed to be able to get on the podium at the Yas Marina Circuit on Sunday, December 7, 2025, to win the world title from this most prestigious car race.

This victory made Norris unable to hide his emotions. He looked in tears after confirming a very dramatic title.

"I haven't cried for a long time. I thought I wouldn't cry, but I turned out to be crying," Norris said as quoted by BBC Sport.

Norris arrived in Abu Dhabi with only a 12-point advantage from Verstappen, which prevented him from finishing outside the top three. If he finished in fourth and first Verstappen, then this year's world title would not be his.

Oscar Piastri, Norris' teammate at McLaren, also still had a chance when they arrived in Abu Dhabi. However, his chances are much smaller than Verstappen and Norris.

"I am very happy to be able to fight against them both and it is an honor, I have also learned a lot from both of them," said Norris.

Norris was McLaren's first world champion since Lewis Hamilton in 2008. This is also McLaren's first double title and constructor since 1998.

In addition, Norris also became the 11th Formula 1 world champion from England. He is world champion after waiting for seven years since joining F1.

Norris' victory also decided on Verstappen's dominance, who previously managed to become world champion in four consecutive seasons.
