The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) officially launched the Regional Training Center (Pelatwil) program as a step to expand the development of athletes in the regions.
This program is an effort to strengthen the coaching ecosystem by providing wider opportunities for regional athletes to develop without having to move to the PBSI National Training Center in Cipayung.
"We want to ensure that the coaching of young athletes runs evenly throughout Indonesia," said the Head of the Pelatwil Study Team, Slamet Soedarsono, in a statement received.
This program is expected to attract talented badminton athletes who are widely spread throughout Indonesia as well as become a bridge between coaching in the regions and the National Training Center (Pelatnas).

The Provincial Management (Pengprov) of PBSI North Sumatra and the East Java PBSI Provincial Management were appointed as implementers of the Regional Training Center, respectively for the West and Central Region.
PBSI will present national training standards directly to regions with integrated systems, coaches, and facilities.
The Regional Training Program is fully funded by PBSI. The facilities and infrastructure are assisted by the North Sumatra PBSI Provincial Government and the East Java PBSI Provincial Government.
North Sumatra oversees the coaching of athletes from all over Sumatra, while East Java oversees the guidance of mid-regional athletes including East Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Nusa Tenggara.
Both regions have the most comprehensive readiness to become a model for the implementation of the Regional Training after going through an in-depth study process.
North Sumatra has a more complete and new infrastructure advantage for hosting the 2024 National Sports Week (PON).
On the other hand, East Java already has a successful pilot project through a provincial training camp which in the last three years has shown its achievements by winning various national tournaments.
Slamet said the Pelatwil programs would be made to resemble the PBSI National Training Center, especially for promotion and relegation after one year.
"The selection of coaches will be recommended by PBSI with the national coach category and for the training program, the coach will be met according to the regional needs," said Slamet.
