The Indonesian National Team Is Still Without A Coach, PSSI Prioritizes FIFA Matchday For Indonesia U-23

The U-23 Indonesian national team will use FIFA Matchday to prepare for the 2025 SEA Games (doc. Indonesian national team).

PSSI chose to prioritize the November 2025 edition of the FIFA Matchday agenda as a preparation stage for the U-23 Indonesian national team. This follows the vacant position of the senior Indonesian national team coach after the dismissal of Patrick Kluivert.

This was stated by the General Chairperson (Ketum) of PSSI, Erick Thohir, during a press conference in Jakarta, Friday, October 24, 2025, afternoon WIB.

He prioritized the U-23 Indonesian national team - which will appear in the 2025 Thailand SEA Games - to take advantage of the FIFA Matchday.

"FIFA Matchday in November 2025 is in preparation for the U-23 Indonesian national team to the 2025 SEA Games, under Indra Sjafri. In December 2025, the SEA Games have been," said Erick Thohir.

At the 2025 SEA Games, Indonesia U-23 did have the status of defending champions. In the 2023 edition, Indonesia defeated Thailand in the final with a score of 5-2 through extra time.

Ahead of appearing at the 2025 SEA Games, Erick Thohir highlighted the hosts this time held by Thailand. According to Erick, this will be very different from the previous edition because in the sport of football, Thailand is one of the teams with the best strengths.

"This is not a neutral zone. The host country team (Thailand) is not a team that is not seeded. By beating the Pool is interesting. Of course there is a target, which is the maximum result."
