Chelsea Vs Leicester 2-1: The Blues Takes Over Third Place

JAKARTA - Chelsea completed their revans against Leicester City to take over third place in the standings when they won the meeting of the two teams with a score of 2-1 in Week 37 of the Premier League at Stamford Bridge Stadium, London, Tuesday local time (Wednesday western Indonesia time).

Antonio Ruediger and Jorginho scored goals against Leicester, making up for Chelsea's defeat in the FA Cup final last weekend.

The result saw the two teams switch places in the standings, Chelsea climbed to third place with a collection of 67 points and Leicester (66) dropped to fourth, as Antara reported according to the official Premier League website.

Leicester is even threatened to get out of the top four because Liverpool is only three points behind and has the advantage of a new goal difference competing the day before, according to the official Premier League website.

Just three days after their goal against Leicester was disallowed by VAR in the FA Cup final, Chelsea had two similar situations in the first half.

In the 21st minute, Timo Werner beat goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel from the middle of the penalty area, but the celebration ended immediately as the linesman had raised the flag for offside on the sidelines.

Then in the 34th minute, Werner returned to the ball against Leicester to head a corner from Cesar Azpilicueta's post.

The Stamford Bridge public celebration then came to a halt when the big screen showed signs VAR was reviewing the goal process before referee Mike Dean agreed to cancel it because the ball first hit Werner's hand before it lodged into the Leicester goal.

The two costly decisions drew a chorus of ridicule from Chelsea fans as the two teams entered the dressing rooms to rest.

Two minutes into the second half, the jeers turned into happy cheers because Ruediger finally broke into the Leicester goal using Ben Chilwell's corner to open Chelsea's advantage.

Then the Chelsea fans burst into excitement again when Dean rewarded his team with a penalty because Werner was tackled by Wesley Fofana in the forbidden box.

Jorginho, who was the executioner, executed his trademark penalty in order to beat Schmeichel and double Chelsea's lead in the 66th minute.

After being two goals behind, Leicester seemingly just started to find their rhythm and managed to score a return goal in the 76th minute through Kelechi Iheanacho's easy effort to finish Wilfried Ndidi's pass.

That goal at the same time made Iheanacho break the record as the first player in the Premier League to always score a goal when his team played on any day of the season.

Unfortunately, the momentum of Leicester's revival from that goal was successfully suppressed by Chelsea, including through goalkeeper Edouard Mendy's brilliant save for Iheanacho's shot from the edge of the penalty box in the 81st minute.

The injury-time period saw three yellow cards rain, one for Mendy who wasted time, and the other two for Roberto Pereyra and substitute Daniel Amartey for being involved in a fuss at the end of the match.

However, Chelsea was able to leave the match with the full three points to further strengthen their position in the race for the top four.

In the final match played simultaneously on Sunday, May 23, Chelsea will travel to Villa Park, Birmingham, to face Aston Villa, while Leicester host Tottenham Hotspur at the King Power Stadium.
