JAKARTA - World 2024 champion Jorge Martin suffered a fracture in the right leg as a result of an accident in the Japanese MotoGP Sprint race at the Motegi Circuit, Japan, Saturday.

"Jorge Martin has undergone a medical examination at the circuit medical center. The X-ray results show a shift in the right hull fracture," Aprilia said in a statement quoted from Crash, which was continued by ANTARA, Saturday, September 27.

The incident occurred after the Aprilia racer fell at the first corner and hit his teammate Marco Bezzecchi. The team also confirmed that Martin would be helicopterd to Dokkyo Medical University Hospital for further examination.

Martin, who started from 17th position, tried to maneuver past from the inside at the first corner. However, the control of his motorbike was lost so that he fell and his upper body hit the Bezzecki motorbike. Both fell onto the track and had to get help from the marshal before he could walk away from the track.

This injury adds to the long list of physical problems experienced by Martin throughout the 2025 season. Previously, the Spaniard also suffered a fracture during his pre-season test in Sepang, an accident in training, and an incident at the Qatar MotoGP that ruled him out in 10 of the 11 race series at the start of the season.

Martin actually came to Japan with optimism after recording five consecutive races without injury and undergoing important tests at Misano. He targets an increase in performance after the best results with Aprilia previously were only finishing fourth. However, an accident in Motegi forced his ambition to stop.

As a result of this injury, Martin is confirmed to be absent from the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday (28/9) and almost certainly miss the Indonesian series at Mandalika next week. However, his chances of returning to race on Phillip Island next month remain open if the stabilizing installation process runs smoothly without complications.

In addition, Martin has the potential to face sanctions from the FIM Steward who assessed that his maneuvers at the first corner could be categorized as irresponsible. However, the disciplinary hearing was postponed until Martin was declared recovered and could attend the examination process.

Meanwhile, Marco Bezzecki, who was also dragged into the accident, was only lucky to have bruises on his right leg without serious injuries.

Marco Bezzecki suffered bruises on his right leg, but with no serious consequences, Aprilia said in a follow-up statement. The Italian racer is currently 20 points away from Francesco Bagnaia in the race for third place in the world standings.

The Sprint race in Motegi also affects the course of the competition for other racers. Alex Rins, Johann Zarco, and Jack Miller were caught in the first corner incident, but they were still able to continue the race until finish.
