Girona And Espanyol Share Points After Drawing Goallessly

JAKARTA Girona had to settle for sharing points after being held to a goalless draw by Espanyol in the seventh week of the Spanish League at Montilivi Stadium, Saturday, September 27 in the morning WIB. Even though both teams had a number of dangerous opportunities, the weak final finish left the match without a goal.

This result makes Girona move up to 19th in the standings with a collection of three points from seven matches. They are still in the relegation zone and one point behind the safe zone. Meanwhile, Espanyol remains at the top, finishing fourth with 12 points resulting from three wins, three draws, and one defeat.

Statistically, Girona excels in possession with a record 60 percent. However, Espanyol is more aggressive in creating chances with 20 shots, five of which are right on target.

Girona took the initiative to attack first through Ivan Martin, but his shot was parried by Espanyol goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic. Espanyol then responded with Roberto Fernandes' volley after receiving a Tyrhys Dolan cross, but Paulo Gazvaniga appeared quick to block the ball.

Dolan got another golden opportunity with a shot from the left side of the penalty box, but Gazhaniga made another brilliant save. Girona almost scored through Vladyslav Vanat who just faced Dmitrovic, but his shot was weak and easy to secure.

Espanyol also had the best chance when Girona's backline error sent the ball down to Pere Milla's feet. Unfortunately, the striker's shot still bounced narrowly over the bar.

Until the long whistle sounded, both teams failed to break the deadlock. The 0-0 draw was the final result of the match.

With these results, Girona still has to work hard to get out of the relegation zone, while Espanyol keeps their consistency at the top of the La Liga standings.
