Unfinished Renovation, Barcelona Make Sure Camp Nou Can't Be Used When Facing PSG

JAKARTA - Barcelona confirmed that the Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain on October 2 will not be played at Camp Nou.

The iconic stadium is not ready for use after undergoing major renovations.

"The match against Paris Saint-Germain, will be played at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys," the club quoted Antara as saying.

"FC Barcelona thanks its members and fans for their understanding and support during the complex and encouraging process of returning to Spotify Camp Nou," Barca continued.

Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys is a stadium with a capacity of 55,000 spectators.

Previously, the Blaugrana was optimistic that it could return to Camp Nou in September, but the delay in licensing made the schedule postponed.

LaLiga's match against Valencia and Getafe was even moved to the Estadi Johan Cruyff, even though the stadium could not be used for European competition.

The construction company Limak is said to be close to completing renovation work, but the club is still waiting for an official completion certificate and license from the Barcelona City Council.

This condition made it certain that the Catalan giant team would play the entire Champions League home game in Montjuic until the group phase ended.

This situation is a financial and sporting loss, as the capacity of the Montjuic stadium is much smaller than that of Camp Nou.

However, Barcelona still hopes to return to their main stadium for the late September La Liga match.

Barcelona will face Getafe on Monday (22/9).
