Neymar Officially Extends His Contract With Paris Saint-Germain Until 2025

JAKARTA - Brazilian striker Neymar has officially signed a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). This means that Neymar will still play at PSG until 2025.

As reported by Reuters, the 29-year-old player has agreed on a deal with a contract value of 30 million euros or around Rp515 billion per year. "I am very happy to be able to extend my contract with Paris until 2025," Neymar told PSG's official website.

Indeed, Neymar admitted that he wanted to leave PSG in 2019 and return to Barcelona. However, the player admits that he is happy at PSG and has helped his team to the Champions League final last season.

"Actually I am very happy to be part of a club project, to try and win titles, to try and achieve our biggest dream which is the Champions League."

PSG has spent around 1.3 billion euros on new signings since being taken over by Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) in the 2011-12 season and they have won seven of the last nine Ligue 1 titles.

"At the heart of our ambitious project to develop PSG is the heart, talent, and dedication of our players," said PSG president Nasser al-Khelaifi.

"We are very pleased to see him continue as part of our project and with us for many years to come."

Coach Mauricio Pochettino expressed his happiness to be able to train Neymar longer. "I think today the whole PSG family is happy that Neymar has extended his contract."

Neymar has scored 85 goals in 112 appearances for PSG, winning a number of trophies including three league titles.

Apart from Neymar, PSG also wants to extend Kylian Mbappe's contract because the 22-year-old French striker's contract will expire at the end of next season.

PSG is currently second in the Ligue 1 standings, four points behind leaders Lille ahead of their clash at Stade Rennais on Sunday. There will be two games remaining for the 2020-21 season after this weekend's games.
